What makes Wagsmore different from other grooming salons?

We’re a family owned, kennel-free salon – this means your dog can have a chance to spend their spa day playing with their buddies and run free in between the steps of the grooming process!

We have separated areas for less social dogs to relax, and kennels available if your dog feels more
comfortable that way. We customize our approach for every dog that walks in our doors! This is why we ask 3-4 hours for each appointment – we never rush through the process and we go at your dog’s pace, not our own!

If your dog is a puppy, a senior, or a little bit more nervous with regards to grooming, our stylists will work with you to find the system that works best for your dogs’ needs. This may mean coming in on quieter days of the week, staying with the same stylist every appointment, or booking on a regular schedule to ensure your dog has a chance to get used to us and the process.

We LOVE talking about what we do – feel free to give us a call, drop by, or send us an email to find out more!

What Are The Benefits Of A Regular Groom?

We always recommend regular grooming for any dog, regardless of age, breed, coat type, and
temperament. Aside from your pup looking fresh and clean, there are lots of reasons to maintain a
consistent grooming schedule. We do recommend pre-booking your appointments for each year in
January – this ensures your dog can remain on the correct schedule and you can pick the dates and
times that work best for you!

Skin and coat care

Did you know that matting is actually painful and detrimental to your dogs’ health? In cases of severe
matting, dogs can develop bruises and even tear skin due to the matts pulling when they move. There
may be hidden wounds, bug bites, and even infections under matted coats. See our matted coat
policy
for how we handle severe cases of matting. Even if your pet is not matted, our stylists can catch
problems such as warts, lumps, joint problems, and skin disease as they develop. While we are NOT vets
and cannot diagnose, we can let you know of any concerns that may require vet attention.

Nail care

It’s important to keep up with consistent nail trimming! Nails left excessively long can cause severe joint
pain and could even cut through your dogs’ pads, creating an opportunity for infection. Nails should be
trimmed at least every 8 weeks, trimming every two weeks may be
necessary to help the quick recede so your dogs’ nails can be cut shorter. Bi-weekly dremmeling is the
best option, as it exposes the quick slightly so that when your dog walks on concrete, the quick recedes
faster.

Confidence building

Especially for dogs that aren’t very comfortable with the grooming process, keeping them away from a
grooming salon for extended periods of time can reduce their confidence and increase their fearfulness!
We recommend “happy visits” for puppies and severely anxious dogs – they can come visit in the lobby,
get some treats, love, and leave without anything stressful happening! While we’re working with a
fearful or nervous dog, we recommend a 4 week schedule to increase exposure and ensure that your
dog won’t “forget” the process and start back from square one.
For very nervous dogs or dogs with severe behavioural concerns, we always recommend Naughty
Boyz Dog Training
for force free, science-based training methods. Work alongside your dog trainer to
build your dogs’ confidence!
